What they say: Waterproof, durable and highly-visible, the Thunderstorm City backpack will serve you well.
What we say: When it comes to combating crummy British weather, Altura’s products are as good as it gets for cyclists. And its Thunderstorm City Backpack (hey, the clue’s in the name!) is no exception. Made from a highly durable ripstop polyester that’s been treated with a waterproof coating and constructed using sealed seams, this will keep whatever you stash inside it dry even in the worst downpour.
The main compartment is accessed via a simple roll-top that is secured by a strap. Inside you’ll find a separate padded sleeve big enough for a 13 in laptop, a further zipped pocket, two smaller pouches for pens and notepads, plus a key loop.
With a 30-liter capacity, this offers, erm, bags of room without adding excessive weight to your ride (600g to be precise). It sits nicely on your back, too, thanks to adjustable shoulder, sternum and waist straps as well as a series of breathable pads down the spine.
There’s a carry handle on top, plus reflective detailing and three light loops for when you’re pedaling in poor light conditions. Available in black or high-viz yellow.
Conclusion: Looks the business and does its job extraordinarily well in a completely unfussy way.
