What they say: An extremely lightweight, packable layer for wet- weather protection.
What we say: Tucked away inside this jacket is a label with a quote by Hilaire Belloc on it. It’s a very Rapha touch, and much in keeping with the design and styling of this handsome-looking bit of kit. Not that it’s without its surprises.
It may look like a soft-shell jacket, but the material used in its construction is noticeably stiff. And, although there is still some stretch to this aero garment, it does make for a slightly unforgiving fit. There’s no arguing with the jacket’s ability to keep you dry and warm, though.
It’s waterproofing and breathability are all-but perfect. The DWR-treated fabric is partly responsible, as are the elasticated cuffs, hem and taped seams. Behind its two-way zip, which allows the garment to be opened from either the top or the bottom, there’s also a generous storm flap. What’s more, the tail is long enough to keep road spray off your butt, while reflective details help with visibility. It weighs 179g, and is available in black, navy, or yellow, in sizes XS-L.
Conclusion: Yes, it’s pricey and, yes it’s worth it. A super stylish, super effective, super jacket.
