Specialized Merino Long-sleeve Baselayer Review

Specialized Merino Long-sleeve Baselayer

What they say: Warm base layer made of merino wool on the outside and Dryarn on the inside.

What we say: Specialized has tried to make a base layer that’s all things to all cyclists. It’s made primarily from merino wool but with a (Dryarn) polypropylene microfiber inner which is intended to wick the sweat away. Does it work? Well, yes. It manages to strike a balance between keeping you warm, dry and pong free remarkably well. It even manages to do the latter after a few rides.

Fit is more what you might call athletic, but while it’s a pretty close-fitting garment, there is plenty of spring in the material to allow a comfortable fit, while generous length in the sleeves and tail provide decent levels of draft exclusion. Perhaps a bit itchier than some here, although the fiat-lock stitching reduces rub. Available in sizes S-XXL.

Conclusion: This has a sort of rugged, versatile quality to it. One for overnight adventures or off-road antics perhaps.
